Which iPad tablets are compatible with iPadOS 16?

This week, Apple hosted its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

iPadOS 16 is the next major version of Apple's tablet operating system, featuring new collaboration and multitasking features.

iOS 16 for the iPhone includes a slew of new features coming to the iPad as well, including the ability for families to share photo libraries and powerful new text and visual lookup tools.

With iPadOS 16, Apple's tablet gets a new set of productivity tools to help it become more like a laptop.

iPadOS 16 will run on every iPad Pro Apple has released, including the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro from 2015, but it's the end for its entry-level models from that era.

iPad Pro: 10.5-inch, and 9.7-inch
iPad: Fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth generation
will support iPadOS 16

iPad Pro 12.9-inch: First, second, third, fourth, and fifth generationiPad Pro 11-inch: First, second, and third generation

Apple is more lenient with iPadOS 16 than iPhone OS.
iOS 16 is limited to A11-powered iPhones, but iPadOS 16 will work on iPads with the iPhone 6s' A9 chip.
