Off the grid

New Video Game Revealed by District 9 Director Neill Blomkamp

Battle Royale Off the Grid is a game set to be released by Gunzilla Games in 2023. Blomkamp, director of District 9 and Elysium, joined the company as chief visionary officer last year. The game’s narrative will be significantly more prominent in Off the Grid than other battle royale games on the market according to Blomkamp.

In an interview with GameSpot, Blomkamp said that one of the things he and Richard Morgan are working on is developing a rich storyline and history for the game’s world. He went on to say that the world of refugees, contractors, assassins-for-hire, and corporate elites is full of conflict and interesting characters with stories that can be explored in different ways.

Players will be able to choose from one of three factions when creating a character in Off the Grid. The game’s main conflict appears to center around a “space elevator,” which is being used to mine asteroids for lucrative materials. Battles will offer opportunities for players to complete narrative objectives, and the results of those accomplishments will have an effect on the storyline in the long run. Players will not be able to swap between the game’s many factions, according to Blomkamp and his crew.

Off the Grid looks like it could be a high-stakes war royale. If Blomkamp and his team can deliver on their promise, we might see a new approach to the genre. For now, fans of the director will have to wait and see what happens next!
