Apex Legends Season 13 will be released next week, and players will be able to play as the newest Legend, Newcastle. However, it appears that Respawn Entertainment may finally be abandoning the tradition of adding a new playable character to the game with the beginning of each new season! In a recent interview with Dexerto, Respawn’s senior character designer Devan McGuire stated that there could be a “breaking point” when continuing with this type of frequency is no longer rational.
“We don’t want to oversaturate the pool [of Legends],” said McGuire. “Whether or not this pattern continues is a topic of continuing discussion, and it may not be altered, but we don’t want to oversaturate the pool.”
The constant addition of new characters to Apex Legends could strain the devs because they not only have to create new designs and abilities, but also maintain game balance. While new Legends are always appreciated, most players would rather the game remain pleasant to play without any overpowered Legends.
McGuire indicated that the developers will not run out of ideas for new Legends anytime soon. This is good news for fans of Apex Legends, as new Legends are a major incentive to keep playing and returning to the game. It remains to be seen how many more seasons Apex Legends will last, but as long as the developers keep coming up with new ideas, the game should continue to prosper.
Apex Legends is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox One S, PC, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 consoles.
